“We are grateful for Rwanda’s support.” South Sudan health official

Rwandan peacekeepers in South Sudan Rwanbatt-1 (RDF contingent) and RWA-FPU III (RNP police unit) joined forces with the Society for Family Health to deliver free medical services to over 200 residents of Gudele, Juba.

The outreach, which began on Thursday and continued Friday, offered a wide range of services: general health check-ups, dental care, ultrasound scans for expectant mothers, eye treatment, and provision of medicines for conditions such as malaria.

Maj. Gerard Bahati Murasandonyi, Chief Medical Officer of Rwanbatt-1, explained that the initiative reflects the peacekeepers’ core mission of civilian protection, achieved not only through security but also by supporting community health. He noted that the program helps residents access medical care they might otherwise struggle to afford.

Ismail Abdu Nimaya, South Sudan’s government health coordinator, praised Rwanda’s troops and police for their dedication: “We need our brothers from Rwanda and the UN to continue partnering with us to deliver health services to our people. We are grateful for their extraordinary support and sacrifice.”

This effort highlights Rwanda’s broader commitment to peacekeeping missions, where humanitarian assistance complements military duties, strengthening trust between peacekeepers and local communities.
