Sri lankan military officers begin study tour in Rwanda
A delegation of 13 senior officers and instructors from the Sri Lanka Military Academy, led by Group Captain DMS Rangodage, is in Rwanda for a study visit from July 27 to August 9, 2026.
They were welcomed at the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Headquarters in Kimihurura by Brig Gen Louis Kanobayire, Director General of Military Education, Training, and Doctrine. Brig Gen Kanobayire highlighted the long‑standing friendship between Rwanda and Sri Lanka, emphasizing cooperation in military education, peacekeeping, and international security.
He noted that the visit strengthens bilateral ties, fosters knowledge exchange, and helps both sides understand evolving global security challenges, leadership approaches, and professional military education.
Group Captain Rangodage praised Rwanda’s progress in socio‑economic development and the professionalism of the RDF, calling the visit an opportunity to learn from Rwanda’s experience. The delegation attended a presentation on the RDF’s transformation journey, its role in safeguarding sovereignty, supporting national development, and contributing to peacekeeping missions regionally and globally.
The officers also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to honor victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and toured the Campaign Against Genocide Museum to understand Rwanda’s history of resilience. Their program will continue with visits to government institutions and agencies under the Ministry of Defence.
