Medvedev condemns US–Israel strike on Iran

Former Russian President and current Deputy Chair of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev criticized the recent US–Israel strike on Iran, calling it “unjustified” and a violation of international law. He made the remarks after returning from Iran, where he attended the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Medvedev condemned the killing of Iranian leaders and numerous civilians, including schoolchildren, arguing that such actions tarnish the image of those responsible. He praised Iran for enduring hardship “with dignity” and noted that life in Tehran has begun to recover despite damage in several areas.

He emphasized Iran’s strategic leverage through the Strait of Hormuz, which functions as a powerful defensive tool equivalent to nuclear deterrence. The temporary closure of this vital oil route drove global prices up to $120 per barrel, underscoring the strike’s economic consequences.

Medvedev also criticized sanctions imposed on Russia and Iran, labeling them “baseless and contrary to international law.” He argued that such measures further destabilize global order rather than promote peace.
