On Saturday, July 4, 2026, Rwanda celebrated the 32nd anniversary of Liberation Day. President Paul Kagame delivered a message emphasizing that the country’s progress is built on the foundation of security, noting that without peace, development would not be possible.

He paid tribute to the RPA (Rwandan Patriotic Army) fighters who stopped the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, acknowledging that many sacrificed their lives for Rwanda’s freedom. Kagame highlighted that Rwanda had endured years of exclusion, fear, and division, but the liberation struggle aimed to restore dignity and respect to all citizens.

The President stressed that although negative ideologies still exist in the region, genocide will never happen again in Rwanda. He underlined that good governance and security are the pillars of the nation’s achievements, saying: “Without security, nothing else is possible.”

He added that liberation is not a one-time event but a continuous process of improving citizens’ lives. Kagame urged Rwandans to keep building unity, reject division, and work together for development, affirming that the progress made in the past 32 years speaks for itself.

Across the country, the day was marked by inaugurations of new infrastructure projects, livestock distribution to families, and community celebrations, symbolizing peace and prosperity since liberation.
