President Donald Trump has announced that he instructed U.S. negotiators not to rush into a deal with Iran. He emphasized that both sides should take time to carefully review the terms before committing.

According to BBC, the draft agreement under discussion could include a 60‑day ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and renewed talks on Iran’s nuclear program. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: “Talks are going well, but each side must pause to ensure what they want is truly being achieved.”

Both Washington and Tehran confirmed that many issues have already been discussed, expressing optimism that an agreement could be reached soon.

On May 25, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking in Delhi, told reporters that reopening the Strait of Hormuz is a priority before moving forward with nuclear discussions. The U.S. maintains that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, while Iran insists its nuclear program is intended for peaceful development and improving citizens’ lives.

The U.S.–Iran war, which began on February 28, 2026, has already had major global consequences. Oil prices surged after Hormuz — a passage that carries 20% of the world’s oil supply was closed. Reopening this strategic waterway is seen as critical to stabilizing global markets.
