Tyla drops Lagos show from APOP World Tour amid controversy

South African Grammy‑winning artist Tyla has removed Lagos, Nigeria, from the schedule of her APOP World Tour, just days after announcing it as her only Nigerian stop.

The updated tour calendar no longer lists the December 22, 2026 Lagos concert, though shows in Europe, the U.S., and South Africa remain unchanged.

The decision follows a wave of social media calls urging cancellation, with some Nigerians arguing it was inappropriate to host a South African artist amid reports of attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa. Others countered that musicians should not be held responsible for political or social tensions between nations.

The controversy intensified after reports of violence against Nigerians in South Africa, including the death of Chika Ibe in Cape Town. While Tyla and her team have not issued an official statement explaining the removal, the move has fueled speculation about whether the concert was postponed or permanently canceled.

Her tour is still set to conclude in South Africa, with performances in Cape Town on January 4, 2027, and Johannesburg on January 9, 2027.
