Reports from Ngululu, Nyamaboko I Groupement, Masisi Territory confirm that Gen. Mutayomba, a senior commander of the FDLR, was shot twice in the chest during fierce clashes with AFC/M23 rebels. He was later transferred to Beni hospital on May 31 at 18:30.
According to journalist sources on the ground, the fighting also injured the spokesperson of Wazalendo militias, with several combatants killed or captured.
North Kivu Vice Governor Willy Manzi issued a lengthy statement condemning Mutayomba’s legacy, describing him as a “false general” who rose from mining activities to lead FDLR, and accusing him of atrocities: Killing civilians, looting communities, burning villages (including Kinigi) and forcing mass displacement
Manzi concluded with a Kinyarwanda proverb: “Wisunga imbwa ugakubitanwa nayo” — meaning those who align with destructive forces often share their downfall.
