The Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA) has announced changes to the national team’s training schedule ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following new health measures linked to the Ebola outbreak.
Originally, the squad was set to gather in Kinshasa before continuing preparations in Belgium and then traveling to the United States. However, the Kinshasa phase has now been canceled to comply with U.S. health directives aimed at preventing the spread of Ebola.
FECOFA reassured FIFA that most players and technical staff are already based in Europe, minimizing exposure risks. Some staff members have already relocated to Belgium, where they will remain for at least 21 days before heading to the U.S., in line with health protocols.
Both FECOFA and FIFA praised the team’s commitment to following all required measures, ensuring that preparations for the tournament remain on track. FECOFA also addressed worries among Congolese fans who have purchased tickets for World Cup matches but now fear difficulties obtaining U.S. visas due to the new restrictions. FIFA stated it is reviewing possible support measures, including refunds or assistance programs.
