Gabon invites Rwandan agribusiness investors with land opportunities

Gabon’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Dr. Sylver Aboubakar Minko Mi Nseme, has announced that his country is ready to welcome Rwandan investors in agriculture and livestock, offering them land based on the scale and nature of their projects.

Speaking on July 30, 2026, during a visit to the KT Hub agribusiness exhibition at Mulindi, he praised Rwanda’s achievements in modern farming and encouraged Rwandan companies to expand into Gabon.

He explained that Gabon has already designated large tracts of land for farming and livestock ventures, and investors will be matched with land according to their project proposals. Starting in January 2027, Gabon will ban poultry imports, opening significant opportunities for investors with expertise in poultry farming and agribusiness.

KT Hub’s CEO, Kabahizi Theoneste, confirmed that his company is keen to explore opportunities in Gabon, particularly in crops and technologies that can thrive there. Rwanda’s State Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Uwituze Solange, added that Rwanda hopes to collaborate with Gabon in aquaculture, learning from Gabon’s advanced fish farming sector while sharing Rwanda’s innovations in crop production.

Despite having over 5.2 million hectares of arable land, Gabon still imports nearly 90% of its cereals, with more than 220,000 tons expected in 2026. Livestock production also remains low, prompting the government to prioritize agribusiness partnerships to reduce imports and strengthen food security.

Diplomatic ties between Rwanda and Gabon date back to independence, reinforced by cooperation agreements in 1976 and 2011. In October 2023, Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema visited Rwanda, meeting President Paul Kagame to discuss expanding cooperation in trade, agriculture, technology, and economic development.
