The Ministry of Health has confirmed that no Ebola cases have been detected in Rwanda, even as the outbreak continues to affect neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

State Minister Dr. Yvan Butera told RBA that while Ebola has struck Ituri province in DRC and five cases have been reported in Uganda, Rwanda remains free of the disease. “Ebola is not in Rwanda, but when such a disease appears in the region, preventive measures must be put in place,” he said.

Authorities have introduced strict controls:

  • Screening at all border points and Kigali International Airport

  • Monitoring travelers entering Rwanda

  • Restricting entry for foreigners who passed through DRC within the last 30 days

  • Mandatory quarantine for Rwandans and residents returning from DRC within 30 days

The World Health Organization reports over 750 suspected cases and 170+ deaths in DRC. The Bundibugyo strain was confirmed in Ituri, with Mongbwalu, Rwampara, and Bunia among the hardest-hit areas.

Ebola is a highly contagious and deadly disease, spread through contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals or those who have died from the virus. Rapid prevention and vigilance are critical to stopping its spread.
