On 9 June 2026, Kigali will host a major international reggae concert as UB40 ft Ali Campbell performs for the first time in Rwanda at BK Arena. The show is part of The Big Love Tour and is expected to draw both longtime fans and younger audiences.
UB40 was founded in 1978 in Birmingham, UK, becoming one of the most influential reggae bands worldwide with hits like Red Red Wine and Can’t Help Falling in Love.
In 2008, lead singer Ali Campbell left the original group due to management disputes. His departure led to a split:
UB40 continued under Robin Campbell (Ali’s brother) with new members.
UB40 ft Ali Campbell was formed in 2014, focusing on preserving the original sound.
This division created confusion among fans, as both groups perform the same classic songs.
Ali Campbell, the iconic voice behind UB40’s global success, launched his own version of the band with Astro (Terence Wilson) and Mickey Virtue. Astro passed away in 2021, while Virtue left in 2018. Despite these changes, Ali Campbell’s group continues to tour internationally, emphasizing the timeless appeal of UB40’s music.
Meanwhile, the original UB40 lineup, led by Robin Campbell, remains active and will be performing in Hull, UK, as part of The Unstoppable World Tour at the same time Ali Campbell’s group plays in Kigali.
